Emerging adults face many challenges, from managing school responsibilities to starting their first jobs. This period can be stressful, as the pressure to navigate these changes can feel overwhelming.
These challenges are already tough, but they can be intensified by the growing pains of learning to stand on your own. Increasingly, it feels like it’s your responsibility to figure everything out.
Every decision, from what to have for lunch to applying for college or a job, depends on you. You’ll need to navigate various situations that may be new to you, whether it’s doing your own laundry or advocating for yourself with a professor or new boss. Real-world issues are everywhere.
At times, you may find yourself experiencing unexpected outcomes—both positive and negative. You might discover strengths you never knew you had or may find adjusting to this new chapter more challenging than anticipated. While life is full of opportunities for growth and self-discovery, it rarely comes without stress.
Seeking therapy can be a tough decision, especially if you’re worried about being judged or if you think your therapist may not understand your unique challenges. I recognize that you have specific needs as an emerging adult, and I can help you determine the best therapeutic approach for your situation.
By working together, we can develop strategies to manage anxiety, fear, and stress, enabling you to face difficult situations confidently. Therapy can help you build self-confidence and improve your interpersonal skills, making you better equipped to handle conflicts that arise. Our sessions will assist you in identifying and examining harmful thought patterns and behaviors, allowing you to replace them with healthier strategies for moving forward.
If you struggle with gaining independence, therapy can help you develop the emotional resilience you need to confidently navigate this new life you envision for yourself.
Establish
yourself in a new place
It can be hard to adjust to a new place. Even if you’re going to school close to home, moving into a dorm or other shared living situation can be a big change. You might find it hard to get along with those you now live with and it can be tricky to adjust to not living at home or with family.
identify
what you want from life
Many say that the decisions you are making right now - such as where to continue your education, and what career to pursue - will determine the trajectory of your life. These decisions can be frightening.
uncover
how you are impacted by social expectations
College puts you face-to-face with a wide range of people. It can be intimidating to make new friends and cultivate new relationships. It can also be difficult to maintain relationships you had before (e.g. keeping in touch with family).
